How it works

1. Discovery Call

Wondering if nutrition counseling can help you achieve your nutrition/health goal? I invite you to schedule a FREE 10-minute Discovery Call. This is a chance for us to get to know each other, ask questions and see if we're the right fit to work together on your goals.

2. Verify your benefits

Many health insurance companies cover nutritional counseling. This is often the case even if you don’t have an actual diagnosis but still want to come in for nutrition counseling for the prevention of a disease.

Verifying your benefits helps you confirm what your insurance policy will cover for nutrition visits. Here is the information that will walk you through the steps to see if your insurance will cover the cost of nutrition counseling for your visit.

3. Obtain your referral

Some insurances plans require a referral for reimbursement. If you are not using insurance for payment of services, a referral is not required but it would be helpful to know why the medical provider referred you.

If you plan on seeking reimbursement as an out-of-network benefit, your insurance may require you to have a referral prior to your first nutrition appointment. On the referral, a diagnosis code is indicated, which can help with reimbursement claims.

Download your referral form here and have your provider fax it to us by using the number on the referral form.

4. Initial Visit

During your 60-minute Initial Visit, we will do a comprehensive review of your intake forms, including a review of your medical history, nutrition history, day-day eating habits, what has and hasn’t worked in the past, and provided labs.

Generally in the first session, I do provide a modest amount of education based on your underlying medical condition and/or goals. However, the majority of the session is dedicated to gathering the information I need to fully comprehend your current dietary issues, establish why they exist and how I can effectively work with you to resolve them.

Also during this session, we aim to set short-term and long-term goals based on your personal dietary needs to ensure we have a successful game plan.

5. Follow-up Visits

At the end of our first visit, with your help, I will determine the projected frequency of your follow-up appointments.

While most people prefer to come in every 2-4 weeks, I have clients who come in weekly, as well as those who come in every 2-3 months.

Everyone’s nutritional situation is very unique. Without meeting you, it is difficult to determine how many follow-up visits you may require and with what frequency.

During a 30-minute Follow-up Visit, we will discuss previous goals, review your progress, address your questions, and any obstacles you are struggling with, and how things went since your last visit.
